Elizabeth Banks
Back in July I reported that Elizabeth Banks (C'96) did these two episodes of an internet series called "Wainy Days", written by David Wain.

Now, news Liz appears in the last episode of the series below called "Shelly II" ...and it is really raunchy and really funny. At the end of the clip you'll see that Liz will also be starring in a David Wain upcoming feature film this fall called Role Models.

Nights He Wishes He Could F*?#$ Remember

upenn

A couple of weeks ago I posted freshman Kevin Shapiro's (C'12) first Vlog. If you remember he had great enthusiasm for Penn which is typical of any freshmen who just started Penn.

In his second vlog, his enthusiasm continues and he talks about:
  • Starting classes
  • His venture to meet new people
  • Best things and worst things he brought to Penn and the item he didn’t have to bring at all
  • What’s free for the first time at Penn to freshmen like him
  • Kevin continues and hilariously can’t remember some of the nights he’s had thus far!
Kevin also talks about the promise he made in his first vlog about waking up early to jog through campus --because his first class starts at 11. Has he kept his promise? Click below to find out!

Watch Kevin's Vlog #2 here

By the way, is it me or is his roommate in the background getting pissed?

His Entertainment Job Sucked So He Took Matters Into His Own Hands

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

It's Always Sunny In PhiladelphiaEvery Penn success story in Hollywood has an interesting beginning and the following is another must-read for ambitious undergrads and alumni looking to stand out and charter the entertainment waters.

Get the details on how Sonny Lee (C'03) became a TV staff writer for a popular show premiering this week!

Two years ago Sonny Lee’s (C'03, PennSix, Full Measure, Penn Admissions) job “sucked” so he took matters into his own hands which jump started his Hollywood writing career and soon began writing as a staff writer for It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. (he also acted in an episode called "Mac and Charlie Die: Part Two," where he played Quan, Danny DeVito's new potential roommate -see image below.)

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Season Four premieres this Thursday, Sept. 18th on FX with Sonny's episode airing in the second back-to-back episode (10:30 pm) titled "The Gang Solves The Gas Crisis":
"Charlie, Mac and Dennis decide that since gas prices have doubled over the last year, why not buy up a bunch of gas now, store it in the bar for a year, and then sell it back for a huge profit? Meanwhile, Dee and Frank are convinced that Dee's biological father, Bruce Mathis, is funding terrorists when he donates to a local Muslim community center."
Click here to find out how Sonny took his career into his own hands!

Kate Walsh (Addison on Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice) came to Penn on Saturday (9/13/08) to talk at a PennDems meeting.

Click here to watch her talk about the Obama campaign, the first time she met Barack and what he said to her that impressed her, ...and a funny clip where we see the effects of the red-eye flight she took to get to Penn!
(thanks to youtube's "EmmyWatches")

Kate Walsh talks about Nevada, the Obama campaign, her mom, her mom's hat:

Matt Kap's (C'97) band's (The Moving Picture Show) song "The Boy Who Lives Backwards" is featured in the season premiere of MTV's Road Rules Challenge: The Island. It was played at the end of the show when the cast decided to vote off one of their own. Check your local listings for the show's reairing.

Listen to "The Boy Who Lives Backwards" here:

The story behind the song?   Per Matt:

"The Boy Who Lives Backwards" basically came out of a regret. I was going to take some summer classes at NYU and met a girl the first day in the dorm through a friend. She'd had a bad day and her friend wasn't around so I decided to try and cheer her up. We had a really incredible night but I was so shy at the time and thought she had a boyfriend so I didn't ask her out. Years later I thought of that while singing a melody and began thinking about regrets we have in life - the person we didn't kiss, the bully on the playground we didn't stand up to, the clever comebacks that we wished we'd said in an argument and that's what the song is about. It also really reminds me of New York City in the fall which is my favorite time of year."

Morning News Covers Jordan Zucker's Female Fantasy Football League

upennHave you ever heard of an all female fantasy football league?

Jordan Zucker (C'97, Kappa Alpha Theta, captain of UPenn Equestrian team, Stimulus Children's Theater) has been running one for three years now and has just recently caught the attention of the morning news.  See her segment above.  (In the clip above, Jordan is actually video chatting with another Penn alum Jaime Herman (C'01) for her picks.)

Per Jordan, "We started out as all first timers and learned how to play together. Now we’re schooling the guys."

If you check out Jordan's site, you'll see that she does a weekly video/wrap up which includes:
  • Studs and Duds
  • Best Man Pile
  • Best Man Hug
  • Best Body Jump
Incidentally, Jordan is no stranger to TV.  A couple of years ago,  she was featured on close to 10 episodes of Scrubs playing the character of "Lisa" (click here to see her in action!)
