His Riveting Documentary: Injured Firefighter Prepares for NYC Marathon

Monday, March 9, 2009

Several months ago I did a post about Glenn Osten Anderson's (C'02, Pennfest 2007) coverage of the US Olympic Track and Field Trials.

UPennSince May of 2008 Glenn Osten Anderson (C'02) has been working as a correspondent video producer for Runner's World and has covered the US Olympic Trials, New York City Marathon and has done two documentary profiles.

Now he as another new project out for Runner's World called “26.2 or Die” -- a short form 7 episode documentary profiling an injured FDNY firefighter as he prepares for and competes I the 2008 NYC Marathon.

This is Glenn's second documentary about NYC's disabled running community after the award winning The Long Road in 2005. Glenn had previously developed and produced web video programming for CBS College Sports -- in addition to his work with Runner's World, Glenn is currently working with Money-Media.com part of the Financial Times.

His Web Documentaries Are Olympic

Thursday, August 21, 2008

The other day I wrote about some Penn alumni who have been involved in different parts of the 2008 Olympics ...one as a gold medal winner ...the other as a musician...

Now news of another alumnus who is doing some interesting work related to this summer's Olympics.

Since Glenn Osten Anderson's (C'02, Pennfest 2007) web-video project for The Long Road got nominated for a Webby Award, he has been working with his producing partners Brian Sabin (RW Staff Producer) & Josh Cox (World Class Marathoner and On-air personality) at Runner's World magazine to program and produce web video coverage of the US Olympic Track and Field Trials.

Per Glenn,
“We wanted to give a sort of 'insiders' view of the meet and the incredible atmosphere -- so we did feature stories, post-race interviews and daily recaps. We also wanted to deliver a really well-produced high quality production. There is a temptation with web-video (especially within the sports world) for fast turnover and thus getting 'something/ anything' up quickly -- we sought to truly produce the pieces like TV packages and the reaction has been fantastic (which helps justify the 22+ hour days out in Eugene).”

His Nominated Documentary Needs Your Vote

Wednesday, April 9, 2008

Webby AwardsGlenn Osten Anderson's (C'02, Pennfest 2007) web-video project for The Long Road just got nominated for a Webby Award yesterday and he needs your help.

From the film's press release,
The Long Road not only builds on our mission to promote exercise and athletics, but gives us the opportunity to profile a unique side of the student athlete community” said Armory Foundation President and New York City Marathon winner Norbert Sander, MD. “ Never before has a documentary been able to go this deep inside the marathon. The unprecedented access afforded to this production by New York Road Runners and The Achilles Track Club helps to craft these powerful and important stories.”

His Song About the Demise of the Record Industry

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Ananda Sen (C'98 and Pennfest 2007 musician) just debuted a song about the direction of the recording industry ...and the irony of a number one recording artist's album generating the lowest record sales. With the ability for artists like Ananda to use the internet to distribute their music, it will be interesting to see what the music industry will do to compete... (Speaking of which, just today I read that blogger Perez Hilton is in talks with Warner Bros. Records to become a talent agent for them! Good for Perez! Maybe Warner Bros. will make me an offer as well? : ) )

Listen to Ananda's song below:

Click here to check out the lyrics...+/-

"Do It Without You"
by Ananda Sen, Aaron Suplizio, Chee Malabar, Yash Dhillon and Mike Zank

*Sixty thousand, we've hit the peak
How low we go, in just one week
Long time coming but you couldn't see
What you controlled would again be free

We are rising to our feet
Above the ground now, not underneath
We have all that we'll ever need
So I throw my wrench into your machine

And I'll do it without you

Signed on, years gone, you ate your young
Made them churn out the same old song
Music, a widget, mass-produced
Collusive, a privilege that you abused

And I'll do it without you

*Per Ananda, "The "sixty thousand" in the first line is a reference to Alicia Keys having the #1 album a few weeks ago, but selling only 60,0000 albums that week, which is the second lowest #1 album-of-the-week since the start of Soundscan in 1992. The ship is sinking fast."

We've got a great "date" with Ananda

Friday, November 30, 2007

Ananda Sen (C'98 and Pennfest 2007 musician) just launched song #21, "The Date".

As mentioned in my previous post, having begun in June 2007, Ananda has been releasing, free for download, one new song every week for fifty-two weeks!

Per Ananda, "it's cold and rainy in Los Angeles [today], so I thought I'd send you a song that has a bit of a cloudy feel to it".

As you'll listen, this is another great song from Ananda. The soothing tone to Ananda's voice definitely makes all of his songs really enjoyable to listen to.

Some "Thrilling" music

Monday, November 5, 2007

Once our alumni set their mind on something, (for the most part) we stick to it...

Ask Ananda Sen (C'98 and Pennfest 2007 musician) about commitment...

Having begun in June 2007, Ananda has been releasing, free for download, one new song every week for fifty-two weeks! Pretty ambitious!

Per Ananda, "by sharing new music with the world on a weekly basis, he hopes that listeners will feel engaged with his music in a way that the traditional route of releasing an album every two years does not allow."

Click here to check out his "Thriller" cover this week. It's killer!

Glenn Osten Anderson's (C'02) documentary journey down The Long Road

Thursday, October 18, 2007

Just last week, Glenn Osten Anderson (C'02) flew to LA to attend Pennfest 2007 where we showed a clip from his film Mission: SEC Football.(it just won two ACCOLADE TELEVISION awards one for Best Internet TV and one for Videography)

Apparently, Glenn has a thing for sports related films.

His latest project, The Long Run is an "intimate and powerful" documentary about two disabled student-athletes preparing for the ING New York City Marathon.

From the film's press release, “The Long Road not only builds on our mission to promote exercise and athletics, but gives us the opportunity to profile a unique side of the student athlete community” said Armory Foundation President and New York City Marathon winner Norbert Sander, MD. “ Never before has a documentary been able to go this deep inside the marathon. The unprecedented access afforded to this production by New York Road Runners and The Achilles Track Club helps to craft these powerful and important stories.”

Aint Easy Being Green for Stephen Morse (C'07)

Monday, October 1, 2007

Can a non-Whartonite undergrad get funding from Wharton to create a documentary?

Sure can.

Ask Stephen Morse (C'07, Daily Pennsylvanian). Through the Wharton Venture Initiation Program, recent grad (and Pennfest 2007 selectee), Stephen Morse (C'07, Daily Pennsylvanian) was able to start Morse-Levin Productions and create Ain't Easy Being Green, his documentary about the controversial 2006 Pennsylvania Senate race.

(...Another Penn connection here. Before forming MLP, Stephen worked at Ben Katz Productions as the senior post-production assistant for the films Johnny Was and Nailed.)

Stephen is currently looking for a distributor for his 82 minute senior thesis documentary. Alumni out there.. .got any leads for him?
