Scott Baio Makes a Cameo in His EXTREMELY NSFW Viral Video

Friday, September 25, 2009

Scott Baio
From the Penn alum who brought you "The Murray Hill Song" and "I Miss Moranis", DJ Lubel (C'05) has now created a, dare I say, very funny, and very well produced (thanks to Jake Avnet (C'05)) viral video so very NSFW (that's "Not-Safe-For-Work") that I need to have you click the "continue reading" link below to watch this video!

His Growing Empire Is All About Partying, Women and Remaining Uncommitted

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Aaron KaroAs reported on DT, stand-up Aaron Karo's (W'01, Pennfest 2006) multimedia empire seems to be growing rather quickly.

Thus far, Aaron's achievements include:
And today, his empire grows some more...

Aaron's 3rd book, I'm Having More Fun Than You drops today and celebrates the fact that although Aaron has turned 30 he remains on a "quest to party like a rock star, get laid with abandon, and silence his critics in relationships with the rebuke “I’m having more fun than you."

Per the jacket cover,
Aaron Karo
“Happily married people and perpetually single people are similar: We’ve both given up on dating and have merely chosen different exit strategies.” So begins Aaron Karo’s hilarious exploration of bachelor life, from the alcohol-fueled pursuit of chicks in bars to sophisticated advances on defenseless bridesmaids. As his thirtieth birthday approaches, Karo observes the women around him growing increasingly desperate to tie the knot and finds himself equally determined – to remain uncommitted. ... Irreverent, insightful, and relentlessly funny, Karo offers a unique glimpse into the world of guys who defy convention, morality, and their moms in order to preserve their independence.
Why did he write the book?  Aaron tells me:
"When I realized almost all of my friends were married except for me, I decided to write a tribute to modern bachelorhood. If you’ve ever gone to a wedding where even the singles table had couples at it, this book is for you."
Check out Aaron's video above to get a flavor for Aaron's clever comedy.  (Watch the whole video above which builds up to his great last sentence!)

His New Production Company's Hot New Viral Videos You MUST See!

Jake Avnet and UPenn
I've got another Penn alum filmmaker you all should keep your eye on who produced 2 viral hits I want to share --one a funny commercial for "Trojans2Go" and the other which brilliantly combines a Talking Heads song with the film American Psycho!

Last year, I did a post about how Jake Avnet (C'05, Co-Chairman of Undergraduate Film Advisory Board, Founder of the Lecture Series, "Talking Film") won two prestigious grants for one of his films.  Since then, Jake has co-founded his own production company called ENEMY Incorporated with director David Green whose focus is on commercials, music videos, and viral content, as well as film and television production.

As mentioned above, Jake sent me two great films his company has produced. And they're really creative and well done!

Trojan Condoms
Trojan2Go Commercial -"Sri Lanka": Watch this guy travel the globe in the name of love! (reminds me of my undergrad film).   I'm sure our Penn alum sexologist and Trojan spokesperson would approve!

American Psycho and Tom Cruise and Talking HeadsA semi-NSFW cover of the Talking Heads Song "This Must Be the Place" laid over shot-by-shot re-enactments from American Psycho.  ...Tell me that the star of this video, Miles Fisher (Harvard alum), doesn't look like Tom Cruise?!

She's Roasting Joan Rivers and It's Harsh! (NSFW VIDEO)

Friday, August 7, 2009

Last year I did a post about Whitney Cummings (C'03) being one of Entertainment Weekly's "12 Future Stars of Comedy"

As you'll see in the above preview clip from this Sunday night's Friar's Club Joan Rivers roast, it is apparent why Whitney was given this title!

The video above is hysterical and definitely a not-safe-for-work video ...and Whitney pulls no stops when it comes to Joan's face!

This Oscar Nominated Filmmaker's Work Is So "Delicious", It's Really Not Safe For Work (VIDEO)

Thursday, July 30, 2009

Oscar Nominated Alum Colin Campbell (C'91, President of Intuitons, Without A Net, Penn in Pictures 2001 panelist) has created a great 4 minute video he directed for Instant Films, a 48 hour Los Angeles film festival. Colin drew the script and then the cast out of a hat on Saturday morning and by Sunday night he handed in the finished film.

And Colin is no stranger to directing films by any means. In fact his short film "Seraglio" was nominated for an Oscar back in 2000. This was a great film that we showcased in our first Los Angeles Pennfest 2002 (photos HERE, program HERE) and am trying to see if we can get it posted on DT at some point soon.

"Delicious" is definitely on the not-safe-for-work side.  ...So much in fact that the video and the image I'm using for this post associated with this film can only be seen when you expand the post by clicking HERE.

*Besides Colin, we actually have two other Penn alumni whose short film was nominated for an Oscar in 2006.  Get the scoop HERE and watch their film!

Matt Kap's (C'97) band's (The Moving Picture Show) song "The Boy Who Lives Backwards" is featured in the season premiere of MTV's Road Rules Challenge: The Island. It was played at the end of the show when the cast decided to vote off one of their own. Check your local listings for the show's reairing.

Listen to "The Boy Who Lives Backwards" here:

The story behind the song?   Per Matt:

"The Boy Who Lives Backwards" basically came out of a regret. I was going to take some summer classes at NYU and met a girl the first day in the dorm through a friend. She'd had a bad day and her friend wasn't around so I decided to try and cheer her up. We had a really incredible night but I was so shy at the time and thought she had a boyfriend so I didn't ask her out. Years later I thought of that while singing a melody and began thinking about regrets we have in life - the person we didn't kiss, the bully on the playground we didn't stand up to, the clever comebacks that we wished we'd said in an argument and that's what the song is about. It also really reminds me of New York City in the fall which is my favorite time of year."

Check out Matt's performance at our very own Pennfest 2007:

The Red Band Trailer You'll Want to See

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Elizabeth Banks
Elizabeth Banks (C'96) continues to make news this week and I continue to report it...

Over this past year, I have been reporting that Liz will be starring in the upcoming Kevin Smith film, Zach and Miri Make a Porno (October 31).  There's been all sorts of good buzz surrounding this film.

Recently Kevin Smith managed to get the ratings committee to bring the film's rating from NC-17 down to an R.  And news came yesterday that the film will actually be closing the Woodstock Film festival.

Now, the red band trailer for this film just came out and it looks very funny.
