She's A FOX TV Producer By Day and a Jeweler By Night

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Jeweler Kim Rittberg
There seems to be many Penn alumni with multiple careers.

Just a week ago, I posted a story about THESE former college roommate lawyers with a jewelry business.  Now news of another alum with a TV day job with a similar side passion for designing jewelry!

When she's not producing and writing for "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren" on Fox News, Kim Rittberg (C'02, UA, Kappa Alpha Theta) is a jewelry designer with her own jewelry line - k ritt jewelry.

The line has been featured in Women's Wear Daily, Life & Style, Playboy, NY Daily News, nymag.com, Scheckys, CW11, NY1, Newsday, NY Post, worn by Heidi Klum and Sarah Silverman and has been sold at Henri Bendel in New York and other boutiques in Manhattan.

Click HERE to find out more about:
  • what inspired Kim to pursue her own dreams
  • her attention-getting signature piece: the "Asymmeterical Necklace"
  • her career working in television
And apparently juggling careers runs in Kim's family.  Check out the post I did on her Penn alum brother Matt Rittberg HERE.

Alumni Make History with Viral Videos

Monday, November 3, 2008

Two weeks ago I wrote a post about how Executive producers Todd Shotz (C'96) and Andrew Oldershaw (C'02), as well as writer/director Dan Kay (C'97) created four very viral "No on Prop 8" viral videos.

This past week, in a first for an American political campaign, the NO on Prop 8 campaign paid to air the clever video you see above - which was originally produced just for the web by our Penn alumni supporters.

So far, this video has aired during Jimmy Kimmel, Daily Show, Colbert Report, and Saturday Night Live.

Be sure to go out and vote tomorrow everyone!

Three Alumni Go Viral with "No on Prop 8" Celebrity Videos

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

On November 4th, Californians will be asked to make a monumental civil rights decision around the issue of same-sex marriage.

Last week, three Los Angeles based Penn alumni decided to take action against this Proposition 8.  Executive producers Todd Shotz (C'96) and Andrew Oldershaw (C'02), as well as writer/director  Dan Kay (C'97) created four very viral PSAs against this proposition including the talents of Margaret Cho and Molly Ringwald.  FYI, Dan Kay wrote and directed the one with Margaret Cho (see above).

Since they debuted these videos, they have gotten over a million hits on Perez Hilton, Huffington Post, People.com, and E! Online. Yesterday, Wolf Blitzer showed one of them on CNN. Because of the response, they're already deep into pre-production on more.

Per Todd, "We could not have hoped for more coverage to add our support to this campaign. Enjoy! And of course, please vote NO on Prop 8."

Life after Mask and Wig: Taking their comedy to the web!

Tuesday, November 6, 2007

So what happens when you graduate from a performing arts group like Mask and Wig and group members want to continue writing and performing together?

Through the years out here in Los Angeles, there's been a small contingency of Mask and Wiggers that have continued performing sketch comedy. Some, like myself, Todd Lieberman, Norm Golightly and Brian Yanish tried to resurrect working together again in a group called Minus Ten. That lasted for one show and that was that. It was a good try though...

Others have been more persistent and successful with performing sketch comedy.

Take Mask and Wig alumni Gary Lundy (C'05), Spencer Crawford (C'05), Ryan Baber (C'02), Tom Christensen (W'03), Joel Rubin (C'03), and Gabe Laskin (C'05). They have started a group called Danish Rhythm and in addition to a stage show over a year ago, they are now devoted to making original comedic short films. And let me say they've got some smart, irreverent comedy, with some unique Mask and Wig flavor (as you'll see in the Fosse video below).

Glenn Osten Anderson's (C'02) documentary journey down The Long Road

Thursday, October 18, 2007

Just last week, Glenn Osten Anderson (C'02) flew to LA to attend Pennfest 2007 where we showed a clip from his film Mission: SEC Football.(it just won two ACCOLADE TELEVISION awards one for Best Internet TV and one for Videography)

Apparently, Glenn has a thing for sports related films.

His latest project, The Long Run is an "intimate and powerful" documentary about two disabled student-athletes preparing for the ING New York City Marathon.

From the film's press release, “The Long Road not only builds on our mission to promote exercise and athletics, but gives us the opportunity to profile a unique side of the student athlete community” said Armory Foundation President and New York City Marathon winner Norbert Sander, MD. “ Never before has a documentary been able to go this deep inside the marathon. The unprecedented access afforded to this production by New York Road Runners and The Achilles Track Club helps to craft these powerful and important stories.”
