From Scooby Doo to Family Guy to South Park to the Simpsons, His 66 Impersonations are Spot On! (VIDEO)

Friday, July 17, 2009

What happens when you graduate from Penn and have a little too much time on your hands?

Ask Adam El Sehamy (C'09, Pennchants) who is currently studying for the MCAT and has created this very entertaining video of him doing over 6 minutes(!) of cartoon voiceover impersonations....and they are spot on

And if you remember, we already know how good he's been at characters when he took on the role of THIS superhero.

Check out the video above, and per Adam, ...see which impression he is "pretty sure going to hell for"

UPennNote to Los Angelino Penn alumni, while Adam plans on applying to medical school next year, and is in Philly right now doing a year of post bac work to boost his credentials, he has a year off after that.  He hopes to go to LA and express his creative side (singing, modeling, cartoon voiceovers). "Then if I completely fail, " says Adam, "I always have med school to fall back on and at least I can say I tried."

Perhaps Adam can follow in the footsteps of Doctor and actor Roy Vongtama (C'96)?

Penn Wins VH1's The Great Ivy League Debate Showdown (VIDEO)

Thursday, July 9, 2009

UPenn on VH1This week VH1 celebrated its new show "The Great Debate" with an Ivy League showdown in New York City between Penn, Columbia, Harvard and Yale.

Watch the video above to find out how Penn won(!) by defending both the "YMCA" dance craze and Obama as "the world's savior" in this "pop culture blood bath."

I'm sure you'll agree that Noah Becker's (C'09) mad rapping skillz helped Penn win the title!  Plus major points out to Noah for using the phrase "magnum opus" in describing the "YMCA" song.

He's Serving Up a Disturbing Video

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Back in July, I showcased Amin Osman's (C'09) Unwritten video which had a good payoff ending. Now Amin just produced Table of Three another interesting, yet pleasantly disturbing tale.

Overcoming Adversity: His Inspirational Story

Thursday, February 5, 2009

I received this inspirational video of Kyle Burr, a Penn undergrad and thought it was worth sharing.
"On Oct. 23, 2007, Kyle Burr, a senior at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, was diagnosed with testicular cancer while studying abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland. He had an operation to remove the tumor there, and returned to New York where he underwent three cycles of chemotherapy. On Feb. 11 of 2008, Kyle, who is majoring in International Relations and African Studies, officially entered remission.
Kyle decided to run the marathon as a testament to the fact that it's possible to overcome just about anything, and that anything is possible if you dedicate yourself to it. He says he isn't running just for himself, but also in support of cancer patients, survivors and victims everywhere.
When asked why he decided to run the marathon, Kyle responded, 'The challenge itself. What's harder than running a marathon? I want to be able to say I did that, and in less than a year since I even began receiving cancer treatment. I mean there's really no better way of proving that absolutely nothing can hold me back.'"

Getting Hot on DT: Their Jalapeno Contest

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

We've all experimented with jalapenos before but the guys in this film definitely have some serious cajones! (if they were indeed eating as many as the film makes us think!)

Check out this class project video starring some undergrads as a final project for one of Penn's cinematography courses (Starring RJ Ferguson (C'10) and Yanik Ruiz-Ramon (C'10) Produced by Matt Emrick (C'09) and Karishma Jhalani (C'08))

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Amin Osman (C'09) and Michael Shomin (C'10) created this video about a kid who is on his way to turning in his final term paper. Along the way, he flashes back to everything that's led to this moment.

Monday, June 23, 2008

"If you spend all your time staring at your reflection, you've gotta figure that one day it's gonna stare back."

Penn in Cannes: Her First Walk Down the Red Carpet

Friday, June 20, 2008

Penn in CannesJason Wald (C10), Felisha Liu (W09), Anna Cororaton(C09)

So far this week Felisha Liu (W'09) shared some of the good, bad and disappointing films she saw at Cannes, how she managed to score tickets to films through the art of begging and which Penn powerful Penn alumni she met.

Today, she tells us about the electricity in the air at Cannes and her first walk down the Red Carpet!

Click here to read her post!

Check back tomorrow to find out about a very special Beach screening of a film classic Felisha attended and which star made a surprise appearance!

Per Felisha:

"Red is the color of power, strength, passion, danger and desire.

The Red Carpet of the Grand Theater Lumiere at the Festival De Cannes is all of these and so much more. The first time I walked down the Red Carpet, I couldn’t stop smiling.

It didn’t matter that jaded people around me gave me dirty looks as I posed for what seems like an onslaught of pictures.

How many people get to walk the Red Carpet in their lifetime? Not many, and so I was going to take full advantage of the opportunity. There are two entrances to the Red Carpet: the Orchestra and Corbeille seats walk the entire carpet, while Balcony seats merge halfway up.

My first film was the 11:30pm screening of Blindness, for which I was fortunate enough to get Orchestra seats. I strutted like a VIP past the barricades separating us from the gawkers. At the edge of the Red Carpet, my friends and I paused to take it all in. Lights from the top of the stairs shone like beacons, enveloping everything in a surreal light. Photographers lined the Carpet on both sides with ever-flashing bulbs ready to capture that million dollar shot. Savoring every moment of pure bliss, I walked extremely slowly up towards the stairs. My friends and I anchored ourselves in the middle of the stairs and gave ourselves our own photo shoot alongside the paparazzi.

It is impossible not to get caught up in the frenzy. There is a sense of excitement and electricity in the air all up and down the Croisette, the beachfront street of Cannes, during the nighttime premieres. The streets are barricaded as black-tinted Renault cars drop off the movie stars one by one. Screaming signifies a recognizable celebrity, and the entire crowd pushes forward to try to get a closer look. Walking down the street is nearly impossible. In addition to the thousands of gawkers, automobiles try to drive through the masses. The worst traffic jams are the strollers going against the flow of traffic. Add on the onslaught of people still begging for last minute tickets and the result is angry shouting and violent pushing.

But in the end, it the traffic is worth the experience of the Red Carpet. Everyone wants a piece of the magic. For the little girls who grew up thinking they wanted to be Princesses, walking down the Red Carpet is about as close as you can get.

The Trippiness He Found in a Gym at 3 AM

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

UPenn gymYesterday, I wrote about Beauty and Fashion expert Jenn Cohn Falik (C'01).

As we all know, sometimes you've got to work for beauty. And that work can find you in a gym.

So on that note (yes I did hurt myself stretching for this one :) ), I recently got this class project video from Amin Osman (C'09) of what he found roaming around the gym in his Mayer Hall dorm at 3 am with a camera. As Amin puts it, "Trippiness ensues."

Now and Then Thursdays: Once Again She Called Them Seniors

UPenn Hey Day
UPennHey Day 2008 happened on Tuesday this week and once again, judging from some of the facebook photos I've seen, craziness ensued!

videosWatch President Gutmann proclaim the once class of 2009 "juniors" now "seniors"!

videosAnd in case you missed it, watch President Gutmann proclaim last year's junior's "seniors" (and now practically graduates!)

As you'll see in both of the videos above, it is hard for President Gutmann to get decorum. I'm sure this always was and always will be the case.

This Penn Group Brings in Real World Talent

Monday, April 28, 2008

A few weeks ago, Parisa from last season's The Real World: Sydney came to Penn to sing with the Pennchants.

...If you were a fan of The Real World, you would know that Parisa is a good singer (and unfortunately had to deal with some immature roommates from her season)

So how did the Pennchants score this?

Apparently Parisa is a family friend of the group's President Adam El Sehamy (C'09) and she came down to Penn where the group arranged one of her songs. Pretty cool!

Website Wednesdays: Showmethesetlist.com

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

In addition to my weekly Tuesday Tips and Now and Then Thursday series, I want to now introduce yet another series sure to be popular quickly: Website Wednesdays. (yes another illiteration associated with a day of the week). This series will cover the many, many websites developed by our undergrads and alumni.

As you've noticed on this site, I do a lot of posts having to do with music. ...So for my first post of this new series, I want to share Showmethesetlist.com, a start-up site from Corey Lorinsky (W'07, Sigma Alpha Mu, Wharton Venture Initiation Program) and Daril Vilhena (C'09).

Per Corey, this site "enables users to catalog the music concert experience like never before. The web site allows users to create individual pages for each live show. Concert-goers post song setlists, discuss and review performances, as well as create online galleries full of photos, videos, scanned ticket stubs, gig posters, actual setlists and more. It's like creating a virtual scrapbook page for each show, except much cooler."
