Some good Penn alumni Hollywood news in my roundup this week:
- Big Wig makes big job change

Per Cynthia’s Cynopsis, after 19 years with the Sundance Film Festival (he’s been the Director most recently), Geoffrey Gilmore (C'74, Penn in Pictures 2002 panelist) just changed jobs and joined New York-based Tribeca Enterprises as CCO where "he will lead the company's international content strategy, development efforts and brand expansion. Mike Karz (C’89, W'89) will produce the film Valentine’s Day: “a love story which revolves around five relationships in Los Angeles, all of which are put through the paces over the course of one Valentine's Day.
Mike will also be producing the romantic comedy “Five Killers” starring Katherine Heigl. Per Screamingdemon, “Story kicks off when a woman meets the man of her dreams while on vacation. Married bliss is turned upside down when they discover that their neighbors may be assassins hired to kill them.”

Kate Jennings Grant (C’92, Counterparts) plays Diane Sawyer in the Oscar Nominated film Frost/Nixon.
She is also now starring as Sarah Brown in the Guys and Dolls revival on Broadway with Lauren Graham.

Yesterday I talked about this year's great Penn in Pictures event and how I will be posting videos from the event.
To start things off, check out the video above of TV writer Lew Schneider (C'83, Everybody Loves Raymond writer).
In the video, Lew talks about:
- His major at Penn, his time in Mask and Wig
- How her pursued a life in comedy as a stand-up, tv host, an actor and a TV writer
- How he transitioned from actor to writer and what shows he wrote for before landing his Everybody Loves Raymond gig
- What he's been doing since Raymond ended (including new pilots, a great animated show he wrote for, and his time now on New Adventures of Old Christine)

Lew Schneider (C'83) featured in "The Christmas Letter"As I sit at home on Christmas morning sipping on my light egg nog and reminiscing about Hanukkah, I am enjoying a whole lot of TV marathons.
One great Christmas episode I just caught was an Everybody Loves Raymond episode, called "The Christmas Letter" written by Penn alum Lew Schneider (C'83, Mask and Wig). Lew actually is in the episode as the photographer taking the Romano family photo. (see screenshot above)
Per TV.com, here's the episode summary:
"Ray believes he has finally found the ultimate Christmas gift for his parents--if nothing else it will certainly be something they will remember forever. Ray is thrilled when he hits upon the perfect gift--a family photo that his mom and dad can treasure forever. But, when the day arrives to take the picture, Ray tries in vain to keep the peace when Debra and Marie have very conflicting opinions about the meaning of "family" in family photo."Speaking of Lew, I just got wind that Lew is now co-Executive Producing CBS's The New Adventures of Old Christine.

Disney's Rich Ross (C'83) / Brian Yanish (C'95) to appear at Licensing International Expo 2007 (NYC)

Rich Ross (C'83), President Disney Channel Worldwide, will be appearing at the Licensing International Expo 2007 (Javits Convention Center, NYC) tomorrow at 9:30 am, to announce new extensions to the Hannah Montana brand including a new fashion line, youth electronics and details about Miley Cyrus's (star of Hannah Montana) upcoming CD and concert tour.Over the years (especially back in my college days), Rich had come to campus and given talks about getting into the business. A great resource for alumni coming to Los Angeles.
...Also, apearing at the Licensing International Expo on June 19-21 is illustrator Brian Yanish (C'95, Mask and Wig, Friars).
Brian will promote his children's property The Scrapkins at Booth #2138. ...What really happens to the stuff you throw away? Come see the silly and grossly imagined world of recycling from a child's perspective.
Brian brings over 10 years experience working in illustration and licensed product design. His mission is to create engaging and inspiring content for children that promotes an active imagination, positive self-image, and the silly joy of being a kid.
...I've known Brian since my Mask and Wig days and he is extremely creative and talented.
