He Beatboxes In The Internet Symphony That Went Around The World (VIDEO)

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

On this happy Cinco de Mayo day, I have a fun, music filled, Penn related, celebration treat for all of you...

Did you catch the Youtube Symphony project that was going around the web a couple of weeks ago?

If you watch closely in the video above, at minute 4:07, you would have found Adam Matta (C'96, Mask and Wig) beatboxing the "brake drum and snare" parts in the Mashup Video.

Adam has gone international with his beatboxing recently:
  • He headlined the Human Beatbox Convention in London, at the Southbank Centre.
  • Was in Austria the same week, rehearsing with Nihan Devecioglu, who will be a guest artist at the show at BAM Cafe in June.  More info about the BAM gig HERE
Some of Adam's amazing performances (this guy has serious talent!)

Beatboxing with the world's oldest electronic instrument...

Monday, November 26, 2007

Having made music a few months ago with a bike wheel and a walkman, now click here to check out the latest not-so-typical instrument beatboxer Adam Matta (C'96) is using to create music!

Have you ever heard of a theremin? Neither have I.

Per Adam, "A theremin is the world's oldest electronic instrument, invented by Leon Theremin in Russia, 1919. It is played not by touching it, but simply by moving one's hands near the antennae, which create electromagnetic fields that are interrupted by the user's hands."

Adam Matta (C'96) brings his beatboxing stylings to Cornell!

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

I just got an update from beatboxer Adam Matta (C'96, Mask and Wig) and according to his website he will be "the new artist in residence at Cornell University's Risley Hall and will be providing programming for the students who live there based around music, performance and visual art." ...Maybe Penn will bring Adam back onto campus to teach some classes as well? : )

Adam also posted a great video of him doing his beatboxing thang with bass superstar Tim Lefebvre (Tim plays with the Saturday Night Live Band).

Check out what Adam does with a Bike wheel and a walkman! Even back in my undergrad days in Mask and Wig, Adam has always super creative...

Adam Matta (C'96, Mask and Wig) screams for Ice Cream

Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Adam Matta (C'96, Mask and Wig) was on NPR's All Things Considered today, speaking about his entry in this cool competition called Ice Cream Headache.

Per Adam, "These two artists from Brooklyn came up with an idea to call for remixes and reinterpretations of the Mr. Softee jingle, and the winning results will be broadcast from an ice cream truck driven around New York Memorial Day weekend."
