Chef Bobby Flay Thinks She Should Have Her Own Show

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Bobby Flay
Recently Jordan Zucker (C'97, Theta) appeared alongside Chef Bobby Flay in the entire half hour "Rib-Eye Episode" of "Grill It! with Bobby Flay".  Jordan grilled up some tasty football inspired dishes alongside the grill-master himself.

Check out the 6 minute edited down video above.  As you'll see the 2 of them have great chemistry together ...and Bobby even says that Jordan should get her own show!

The recipes Jordan grilled up with Bobby include:
  • “Rib-Eye”k Hillard in an Earnest “Gremolata” Marinade
  • Smokey Anthony “Poblano” Cream Sauce
  • Tyler “Fig”pen Balsamic Glazed Red Onions
  • “Waterm”ellen Winslow Salad:
  • John Daly Cocktail (aka “The J.D.”)
Find out how to make these by visiting Jordan's Girls Guide to Fantasy Football Website HERE!

Her Fantasy Football League Was Featured Again on TV This Weekend!

Sunday, February 1, 2009

A few months ago, Jordan Zucker's (C'97, Kappa Alpha Theta, captain of UPenn Equestrian team, Stimulus Children's Theater) all female fantasy football league, "GirlsGuidetoFantasyFootball.com" was featured on the morning news HERE.

This weekend she and her site were featured on another popular news program. Check it out above!

Per Jordan, "We started out as all first timers and learned how to play together. Now we’re schooling the guys."

While the fantasyfootball season is over, you can still check out Jordan's site, and see her VERY creative, weekly video wrap ups which includes:
  • Studs and Duds
  • Best Man Pile
  • Best Man Hug
  • Best Body Jump
Incidentally, Jordan is no stranger to TV. A couple of years ago, she was featured on close to 10 episodes of Scrubs playing the character of "Lisa" (click here to see her in action!)

Happy Superbowl Sunday everyone!

Touchdown for David Isser's "Gameday"

Friday, January 30, 2009

In light of this weekend's Superbowl, I have a special treat for all of you.

Filmmaker David Isser (C'01) has gone from documentaries to now comedies ...and in his latest one, Gameday (above), check out a guy who cleverly tries to find out the score of the big game from his buddies, while he's stuck in the car with his girlfriend who hates football.

Girls and guys out there will enjoy this I'm sure!

Also, be sure to also check out the show Dave edited for the Discovery show on February 8th, 9pm ET/PT, 8PM CT called "The Science of Sex Appeal".  Sounds very interesting...

Speaking of football, did you check out Jordan Zucker's (C'97) very creative weekly videos from her Girls Guide to Fantasty Football website. Go over there and check them out!

Penn in Pictures '08 VIDEO: ER's Medical Consultant Zach Lutsky (C'97)

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

Yesterday, I posted video of TV writer (and Penn in Pictures') host Lew Schneider (C'83) talking about his beginnings in Hollywood.

Today, I continue my Penn in Pictures series with great video of Zach Lutsky (C'97). Not only is Zach an attending physician in Emergency Medicine at Cedars-Sinai medical Center, but he has worked as a medical consultant on:
  • two cable shows, "Untold Stories of the ER" and "Diagnosis X"
  • and is currently in his second season as an on-set medical technical advisor on "ER."
  • Most recently, he also was the medical technical advisor on the new John Wells pilot, "LAPD."
In the videos above, watch Zach talk about his beginnings from Penn - to Dr - to Dr. Hollywood!

A special thanks to editor David Chalfin (C'96), a fantastic editor living in Los Angeles who recorded and edited all the Penn in Pictures videos. Check out his reel here!

Penn in Pictures '08: The Event Videos You'll Want to See

Monday, December 1, 2008

UPenn
(l to r): Lew Schneider (C'83), event producer Reg Tigerman (C'07), Zach Lutsky (C'97),
Sherri Cooper Landsman (C'94) and Jason Resnick (C'92)

"How do I break into the entertainment business?" is the number one question Penn alumni and undergrads always ask of me.

In late October, the Penn Club of Los Angeles hosted its annual Penn in Pictures event at ICM and those who attended got some answers from some of our successful alumni panelists.

These paneslists included Jason Resnick (C'92) (Universal acquisitions), Sherri Cooper Landsman (C'95) (Brothers and Sisters Writer), Zach Lutsky (C'97) (ER Medical Consultant) and moderator Lew Schneider (C'83)(Everybody Loves Raymond, New Adventures of Old Christine)

If you missed the event, not to worry!  For the first time, we have recorded the event and starting tomorrow (for the next 2 weeks), I will be sharing with you the videos from all of our panelists and more importantly, the 20+ questions that our alumni asked of our panelists including the ever popular question on "how do I get into the business"!

Check back here on DT, you'll definitely want to know what our panelists said!  (sign up for the free newsletter below to get the updates delivered to your email!)

Alumni Make History with Viral Videos

Monday, November 3, 2008

Two weeks ago I wrote a post about how Executive producers Todd Shotz (C'96) and Andrew Oldershaw (C'02), as well as writer/director Dan Kay (C'97) created four very viral "No on Prop 8" viral videos.

This past week, in a first for an American political campaign, the NO on Prop 8 campaign paid to air the clever video you see above - which was originally produced just for the web by our Penn alumni supporters.

So far, this video has aired during Jimmy Kimmel, Daily Show, Colbert Report, and Saturday Night Live.

Be sure to go out and vote tomorrow everyone!

Three Alumni Go Viral with "No on Prop 8" Celebrity Videos

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

On November 4th, Californians will be asked to make a monumental civil rights decision around the issue of same-sex marriage.

Last week, three Los Angeles based Penn alumni decided to take action against this Proposition 8.  Executive producers Todd Shotz (C'96) and Andrew Oldershaw (C'02), as well as writer/director  Dan Kay (C'97) created four very viral PSAs against this proposition including the talents of Margaret Cho and Molly Ringwald.  FYI, Dan Kay wrote and directed the one with Margaret Cho (see above).

Since they debuted these videos, they have gotten over a million hits on Perez Hilton, Huffington Post, People.com, and E! Online. Yesterday, Wolf Blitzer showed one of them on CNN. Because of the response, they're already deep into pre-production on more.

Per Todd, "We could not have hoped for more coverage to add our support to this campaign. Enjoy! And of course, please vote NO on Prop 8."

Morning News Covers Jordan Zucker's Female Fantasy Football League

Friday, September 12, 2008

upennHave you ever heard of an all female fantasy football league?

Jordan Zucker (C'97, Kappa Alpha Theta, captain of UPenn Equestrian team, Stimulus Children's Theater) has been running one for three years now and has just recently caught the attention of the morning news.  See her segment above.  (In the clip above, Jordan is actually video chatting with another Penn alum Jaime Herman (C'01) for her picks.)

Per Jordan, "We started out as all first timers and learned how to play together. Now we’re schooling the guys."

If you check out Jordan's site, you'll see that she does a weekly video/wrap up which includes:
  • Studs and Duds
  • Best Man Pile
  • Best Man Hug
  • Best Body Jump
Incidentally, Jordan is no stranger to TV.  A couple of years ago,  she was featured on close to 10 episodes of Scrubs playing the character of "Lisa" (click here to see her in action!)

They Gave Him a Shoutout on Last Night's Fringe

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Did you see JJ Abrams' new show Fringe last night?

If you did, you may have missed a quick shout out to Bad Robot (production company behind Fringe) exec Dave Baronoff (C'99, L'02, Mask and Wig, AEPi ). Watch the short clip above to check it out (minute 7:35)!

The show is really well done and the characters and story are well developed.  The reviews also are great...
upenn
The New York Times says:
"… as pilots go, this one is sensational, an artful, suspenseful mix of horror, science fiction, layered conspiracies and extended car chases. "Fringe" sets out to stretch the boundaries of conventional network series. …"

The Hollywood Reporter says:
"… What really makes "Fringe" so promising is that it is potentially reminiscent, in a small way, of the battle-of-the-sexes charm that once made "Moonlighting" the best hour of TV of its time. "

After I published this post,  Dr. Mark Milstein (C'97, Mask and Wig) notified me that he is quoted on the Popular Mechanics website regarding the scientific/medical accuracy of Fringe's Pilot episode.

Click here to see Mark's response to "Can LSD and probe-laden tanks connect your brain to the comatose?"

Watch the entire exciting episode below!:

This Hollywood Penn Writer Has a Five Year Plan He Wants Picked Up

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Writer Joe Port (C’97, DP Cartoonist) hopes someone buys into his Five Year Plan.

Specifically the ABC network.

A month ago, Joe shot a pilot for ABC (produced by NBC) called Five Year Plan, that he and his writing partner Joe Wiseman created and exec produced together. It stars Steve Howey, Will Sasso, Brooke D'orsay, Lee Thompson Young, Joy Osmanski and Steve Rosen.

Per Joe,
“The basic idea is we introduce this young group of people, we learn what their respective five year plans are, and then we watch them as they try to make those dreams come true. The pilot was directed by Gail Mancuso. We're all done editing itnow and have gotten a lot of good feedback so far (my mother Phyllis Port (C'60) claims, "It's a winner!"). We should know pretty soon whether or not it will be picked up to series.”
Before this, Joe worked on The Office, Just Shoot Me and per Joe, “many shows that you've never heard of.”

Joe’s not the only Hollywood Penn writer in his family. His brother Moses Port (C’91) and writing partner David Guarascio (C'91) executive produced last year's CW show Aliens in America and are currently developing projects for Sony.
