My name is Matt Rosler and I graduated from Penn in '96, moved out to Los Angeles and immediately got involved in the Penn Club and in 2004 won Penn's first Young Alumni Award of Merit. From that point on, I have always enjoyed connecting alumni....First with Pennfest, the emerging film and music festival and now with this site. ...Having been an actor and an aspiring TV writer myself, I have seen the need to connect our creative community.
Over the past 10+ years, I have also been a web producer. I currently work for an internet company and have produced websites including The Apprentice sites on Yahoo!, and various sites, contests and interactive banners for Disney, Fox, Warner Brothers, NBC and others.
What is this site?
Last year, after running our 5th Pennfest (night of emerging Penn talent in film and live music), I realized that instead of just celebrating our alumni in one night, we should celebrate one another every day. Afterall, over the years, I had been receiving daily emails from our participants about their latest films and music events. This got me thinking about creating this interactive, multimedia site.
So what is this site? This site is a hub for anyone related to Penn, who like me, (1) wants to know what's going on in the Penn world and (2) wants to be entertained in doing so. Well, I'm here to entertain you with all the latest aggregated news, videos, photos, and links brought to you from various Penn networks and resources across the world.
...After poking around on this site for a bit, you'll notice that a main focus of this site is showcasing and connecting the emerging talents of Penn undergrads and alumni in the arts (film, tv, theater, art, photography, etc..). However, this is just the beginning, so feel free to send me any news you'd like to share with the Penn community.
Why "Dueling Tampons"? I went back and forth on this one, but at the end of the day, the "Dueling Tampons" is a slang term for the big red structures on superblock. This reference has been passed down to students on campus for decades. "Dueling Tampons" is something inherent to Penn, that most Penn alumni know. While it can be perceived as slightly irreverent (not my intentions), I hope it translates to memorable.
As a webproducer for the past 10 years, I like to think that I keep up with the latest technology that will allow me to bring content to you as it comes in. This translates into 2 ways you can keep up.

2) Add the "Dueling Tampons" RSS feed to your "my yahoo", "my google" or any other rss reader page.
a) What is RSS you ask?
"RSS is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated digital content, such as blogs, news feeds or podcasts. Users of RSS content use programs called feed 'readers' or 'aggregators': the user 'subscribes' to a feed by supplying to their reader a link to the feed; the reader can then check the user's subscribed feeds to see if any of those feeds have new content since the last time it checked, and if so, retrieve that content and present it to the user." (from Wikipedia.com)
b) Here's a good video which will give you further info about RSS feeds:

I mean it gave me sense memory of Penn... of the Walk when it was cold, or being in McNeill with Abiel, or being in German class, or taking 20 extra minutes to get to class because of seeing everyone I knew on Locust Walk, or people that sat in my classes that are now really famous or important... just a great site"
