His Documentary is Airing on TV This Week

Monday, February 2, 2009

From documentaries about oil spills to prison baseball teams, filmmaker Loren Mendell (C'95, Friars) documentary which was featured in this year's Slamdance is now on TV this week.

Loren's latest film Adjust Your Color: The Truth of Petey Greene tells the unlikely story of America's first shock jock Petey Greene and features Howard Stern, Marion Barry, Sugar Ray Leonard and James Brown among others.

Per Loren, "America’s original shock-jock, Petey Greene, overcame poverty, drug addiction and prison-time to “tell it like it is,” shocking and entertaining everyone from the ghetto to the White House. During an era of civil unrest in our nation’s capital, Petey used taboo words and ideas, forcing people to confront their own prejudices on his raw, uncensored TV and radio shows. His explosive language and brash style unsettled the establishment as Petey battled both the system and his own demons on the journey to becoming a leading activist during some of our country’s most turbulent years. Don Cheadle, who portrayed Petey in the feature Talk To Me, narrates this documentary featuring a face-off between Petey and an up and coming deejay named Howard Stern."
"This documentary presents rarely seen footage of Petey Greene. It’s a must for anyone who wants to know what made Petey Greene such an incredibly charismatic person, or whomever wants to know where Howard Stern got his gusto from.”

Her Fantasy Football League Was Featured Again on TV This Weekend!

Sunday, February 1, 2009

A few months ago, Jordan Zucker's (C'97, Kappa Alpha Theta, captain of UPenn Equestrian team, Stimulus Children's Theater) all female fantasy football league, "GirlsGuidetoFantasyFootball.com" was featured on the morning news HERE.

This weekend she and her site were featured on another popular news program. Check it out above!

Per Jordan, "We started out as all first timers and learned how to play together. Now we’re schooling the guys."

While the fantasyfootball season is over, you can still check out Jordan's site, and see her VERY creative, weekly video wrap ups which includes:
  • Studs and Duds
  • Best Man Pile
  • Best Man Hug
  • Best Body Jump
Incidentally, Jordan is no stranger to TV. A couple of years ago, she was featured on close to 10 episodes of Scrubs playing the character of "Lisa" (click here to see her in action!)

Happy Superbowl Sunday everyone!

Touchdown for David Isser's "Gameday"

Friday, January 30, 2009

In light of this weekend's Superbowl, I have a special treat for all of you.

Filmmaker David Isser (C'01) has gone from documentaries to now comedies ...and in his latest one, Gameday (above), check out a guy who cleverly tries to find out the score of the big game from his buddies, while he's stuck in the car with his girlfriend who hates football.

Girls and guys out there will enjoy this I'm sure!

Also, be sure to also check out the show Dave edited for the Discovery show on February 8th, 9pm ET/PT, 8PM CT called "The Science of Sex Appeal".  Sounds very interesting...

Speaking of football, did you check out Jordan Zucker's (C'97) very creative weekly videos from her Girls Guide to Fantasty Football website. Go over there and check them out!

She's Anything But Uninvited Into Hollywood's Spotlight

Elizabeth Banks
Since her performances in last fall's W and Zack and Miri Make a Porno, I think it's safe to say now that Elizabeth Banks (C'96) has finally arrived on Hollywood's "A" list.

Over the past 2 months, Liz has been up to so much lately that I figured I would consolidate much into this one post:

1) She announced the Golden Globe nominations on NBC with Brooke Shields, Terrence Howard and Rainn Wilson. She also was a presenter at the actual Golden Globes ceremony.

2) L'Oréal hired Liz as a spokesperson for the company for allegedly $1 million!

3) Today Liz stars in The Uninvited, a new horror flick that is similar in nature to The Ring. (check out the video below for a preview and an interview with Liz)

4) This year look out for her to appear on Scrubs and in the movie The Surrogates (which she is also producing with her husband Max Handelman (C'95) and Penn alum producer Todd Lieberman (C'95)!)

The Wharton Competitive Spirit Never Gets Old...

Thursday, January 29, 2009

Wharton Business School
Check out this fun trailer called "Wharton Froshius" that creatively pokes fun of the Wharton student:
"Penn Geographic Channel presents a special documentary with exclusive, never before seen footage of Wharton students (Whartonus Froshius). This unique species is rumored to be ethically corrupt and willing to do anything to get ahead. We expose their true nature."

Winning Thoughts From a Two Year Old

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

University of Pennsylvania
Woohoo! DT is two! This week we're celebrating the second anniversary of Dueling Tampons! DT is now connecting the largest group of alumni, undergrads and pre-Penn peeps in one place. And this year we've also seen more people from high school reaching into the DT community as prospects interested in Penn.

Maybe this year's influx is coming from the push from the DT article that appeared in the Pennsylvania Gazette. Since then, my inbox continues to get flooded with interesting stories from fellow alum and undergrads who now have a bigger voice on DT.

Before I blow out the candles celebrating you, me and DT, I want to share with you the top posts over this last year that continue to garner the most attention. Here's to you for sharing in wishing Dueling Tampons a Happy Birthday.

Thank you again for all your support!

Best,

Matt Rosler (C'96)
