A home on campus for bands, jugglers, irish fiddlers, & belly dancers

I love this.

It seems with the new Platt Student Performing Arts House, Penn has really been providing students with some very cool opportunities. (thank you Marc Platt (C'79)!)

From this fantastic program to an even more fantastic, dare I say "cool" opportunity open to students, staff, faculty and alums(!).

More after the jump...

Twice a semester, the Penn Collective sponsors "Up on Stage". From their website, performers have included "musicians, bands, jugglers, irish fiddlers, belly dancers, a capella groups, jazz quintets, folk musicians, and a large number of other performers."

This is awesome! A mini Pennfest of sorts.

Nick Gonedes, the director of the program explains, "We schedule the first two hours of our shows (4 segments, 30 mins each). After that, we allow "walk ins" to perform. (That's the real "open mic" part of each show.)"

Their next show is on Sat., 12/1.

Next semester's shows are indicated on their website: http://www.penncollective.com.

Those interested in performing should email Nick Gonedes at gonedes@wharton.upenn.edu.

Check out this video from a recent "Up on Stage" night

Have you taken a peek at the 500+ Penn related videos we've got (divided neatly into categories? :)
